Beef Smash Burger with Bones Pickles and Burger Sauce
Ingredients
Burger
- 150g ground beef (High Fat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sliced Barry's Bay cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted
- Sesame seed buns
Burger Sauce (Mix in a bowl)
- 3 pickles (from Bones Pickles)
- 1 heaping Tbsp of mayo (From Best Foods)
- 1 Tbsp Kasundi
- 1 Tbsp mustard
Method
- Preheat the griddle or skillet: Heat a griddle or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. This ensures a perfect sear on your patties, creating that delicious crispy crust.
- Form beef balls: Divide the ground beef into two equal portions (75g each). Roll each portion into a ball. This helps in achieving the right thickness and texture for your smash burger.
- Smash the burgers: Place a beef ball on the hot griddle or skillet. Using a heavy spatula or a specialized burger press, smash the beef ball down into a thin patty. Season with salt and pepper. Repeat with the remaining beef balls.
- Cook the patties: Cook the patties for about 2 minutes on the first side, until a crispy crust forms. Flip the patties, and immediately place a slice of cheese on each one. Add 2 tsp water to the pan and cover with a lid. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked through.
- Toast the buns: Brush the insides of the burger buns with melted butter. Toast the buns on the griddle or skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers: Place the cooked patties on the bottom buns. Add your favourite toppings and condiments. Top with the other half of the buns.
