Onion Bhaji
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder oil for frying
Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, salt, turmeric, chilli powder, cumin seeds, garam masala, and coriander powder.
- Add the sliced onions and toss to coat evenly in the dry mixture.
- Gradually pour in the water, stirring until the onions are well coated and the batter clings to them — it should be thick, not runny.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Drop small portions of the onion mixture into the hot oil using your hand or a spoon.
- Fry until golden brown and crisp, turning occasionally to cook evenly.
- Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
