Nelson/ Marlborough FreshChoice supermarkets sponsor Tasman Makos

The owners of the FreshChoice Nelson City, Richmond, Motueka, Takaka and Springlands are proud to sponsor the Tasman Makos for the 2009 season. A lot of  work goes into managing the franchise and the owners wanted to give their support to the local team.

The 2009 Tasman Makos Air NZ Cup squad is a clear indication of the depth of local talent and the level of player development over the past two seasons, with all but 1 of the players chosen for the squad having played club rugby locally.

19 of the players from the 2008 Tasman Makos squad are returning for the 2009 campaign along with Sione Holani who missed 2008 due to injury and 2007 Mako Zane Winslade who played in Romania in 2008.

All Black Ben Franks heads the line up of returning Crusader players such as Kahn Fotuali’i, Kade Poki, Quentin MacDonald, Jonathan Poff and Blair Cook and Dan Perrin.

Of the new Makos named many have had previous Air NZ Cup experience at other provinces; Daniel Crichton – Counties Manukau, Anthony Elisala - Auckland, James Kamana – Waikato, Matty James - Manawatu.

The new Makos who will be Air NZ Cup rookies are; Hamish Cochrane, James Foster, Shaun Begg, Ammon Matuauto.

Co Coach Bevan Cadwallader says, the will be some disappointed players, “ there are a number of guys who have worked hard and stepped up this season and only just missed out on selection, but they’ll be able to keep our attention by putting in a good effort with the Marlborough and Nelson Bays representative sides. ”
