Kai @ the Right Price offers more options

Kai @ the Right Price, which has been addressing food security in Te Awamutu and Kihikihi for the past eight months, has added new food options.
"The term food security is widely used; however, there is some confusion about what it actually means," says Population Health promoter Betty Holden. "Food security exists when all families or whanau, at all times, are able to access enough safe and nutritious foods to live an active and healthy life."

FreshChoice Te Awamutu and Population Health's health promotion team joined forces to make that goal a little more achievable and promote healthy lifestyles through the community based initiative Kai @ the Right Price.  With the help of FreshChoice Te Awamutu and produce manager Phid Oldfield, Kai @ the Right Price was meeting their needs and where it could be improved.  "As a result FreshChoice is now offering in addition to their standard range, the option of mixed packs of fruit and vegetables to cater for smaller households.  We are also looking at including in store promotions of meat packs to complement Kai @ the Right Price," Mr Oldfield says.  "When you go to FreshChoice you are able to purchase $2.99 packs of a variety of quality fruit and vegetables," Ms Holden says.
